Chittoor: Demanding entry of share auto-rickshaws, especially autos of ‘Ape’ make, into the municipal corporation limits, drivers have staged a dharna at Gandhi Statue here on Tuesday.

Addressing the auto drivers, Chittoor Division Auto Drivers Union President M Vijaya Kumar has expressed anguish that auto drivers are losing their livelihood with the traffic police not allowing share autos into the city.

He stated that it was unfair on the part of the traffic police to ban entry of share autos. He said that several youth have taken up driving share autos as their livelihood.

He condemned traffic police harassment on share auto drivers. The union leaders have met the Traffic DSP Kesappa and submitted a memorandum to him. They urged the DSP to allow the entry of share autos into the city.

Speaking to The Hans India here, the DSP made it clear that the State government took a decision to impose restrictions of share autos entry into the corporation limits.

He stated that 200 share auto-rickshaws are plying in the city defying ban orders. Union general secretary Vijaya Chander, secretary D Ravi and others spoke.
