Vizianagaram: A large number of devotees thronged Siva temples on the occasion of Maha Sivarathri across the district on Friday. All the temples were illuminated and officials have made special arrangements to provide hassle-free darshan to devotees.Notably, Seetharama temple, which is situated at Ramateertham, celebrated Sivarathri.

Generally, Vaishnava temples wear a deserted look on Sivarathri as the devotees visit Sivalayams, but at Ramateertham, thousands of devotees thronged the temple on the occasion. This is being followed by the people of north Andhra, Odisha and West Bengal.

People will visit, along with their families, to the temple and stay awake the whole night as part of Sivaratri jagaran and early in the morning, they will have a darshan of Lord Srirama.

Sairamacharyulu, the chief priest of the temple, said: “This is the tradition, which is being followed by the devotees for the past 600 years. Visiting Rama temple on Maha Sivarathri indicates that there is no difference between Siva and Kesava. They believe if they offer prayers to Lord Srirama, Siva also will listen to their prayers and bless them. Apart from this, Punya Giri and some other temples were also flooded with devotees.”

Religious fervour marks Sivarathri fest
Srikakulam: Religious fervour marked Maha Sivarathri festival across the district on Friday. Devotees flocked to Sri Mukhalingam, Mahendragiri, Sangameswara, Bheemeswara, Markandeya and Koteswara temples from early hours of Friday.

Devotees took a holy dip in Nagavali river and had darshan of Lord Siva at Sangameswara, Koteswara, Markandeya temples.

A large number of devotees thronged Sri Mukhalingam temple, which issituated adjacent to Vamsadhara river, and after taking a holy dip devotees they had a darshan of Lord Siva. Endowment officials made elaborate arrangements in coordination with revenue, police, medical and panchayat raj officials at the temples across the district.
