Kurnool: As part of his whirlwind tour of the state, Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmanabham on Saturday reached here to take part in Sunday’s protest programme to be held at the Megasiri Function Hall in the city.

He minced no words when he said that the programme would go ahead whether the police give permission it or not.

He called on prominent Kapu leaders, who lent their support to him, at their homes and recalled his relationship with them. Speaking to The Hans India, he said that the British rulers preferred to include the Kapus in the OC list.

But, at the behest of Dr BR Ambedkar the British rulers listed the Kapus under BCs.

In the post independence era, the first chief minister of Andhra Damodaram Sanjeevaiah issued an order listing them under the BCs.

Former Chief Minister Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy issued a GO No. 30 also listing them under BCs. Subsequent Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu approached court to unleash repression on the Kapus.

But, the court ruled that inclusion of the Kapus under the BCs is justified. The court verdict and GO No.30 was brushed under the carpet.

He pointed out that the Chief Minister prior to the last elections promised to include the Kapus among the BCs and later changed the tack conveniently.

He warned the state government of serious consequences if it goes back on its promise to the Kapus.
