Tirupati Haritha hotel to land in private hands
The fate of Rs 17 crore Haritha, AP Tourism Star Hotel Project in Tirupati is hanging in balance. Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has initiated action to privatise the project which is in a prime location of the city.

The corporation is having 1.03 acres land opposite Ruia Hospital on one side and Alipiri on the other facing towards the picturesque view of Tirumala hills. It is well-connected to Tirumala, Chennai and Bangalore bypass roads. No other hotel in the temple city is having such advantageous features.
With an idea of getting a regular income to the Corporation, APTDC planned to construct star hotel in that site. The works were started in 2013 with a plan for 110 rooms including dormitories, modern conference hall, APTDC divisional office, central enquiry office and a restaurant to a capacity of 200 people. The parking area is having ample space to park some 100 cars. So far, Rs 11 crore was spent on this project and preliminary civil works are completed.
Due to one reason or the other, construction work was stopped for the last one year. Now, APTDC was trying to privatise some resorts like Sri Kalahasti, Puligundu, Kuppam resorts along with this incomplete hotel in Tirupati. The corporation issued a notification inviting bids for lease of those resorts. Initially, APTDC got a bid for Rs 2 80 crore per annum and it was not finalised. Now they gave another notification and this time the bidders are trying to bid for Rs 2.40 crore only.
On the other hand, if APTDC completes the project and runs it on its own, it will fetch an income of at least Rs 5 to 6 crore per annum according to the Divisional Manager of APTDC RV Suresh Kumar Reddy. After deducting the maintenance and other expenditure it may incur a net profit of around Rs 3 crore. Instead of supporting the assured revenue getting project, the government is yielding to the pressure from private people for the reasons best known to them.
Significantly, Tirupati division is the highest revenue getting division for APTDC with Rs 29 crore with its existing resorts, projects and transport of buses. Still, it has no permanent own office building here. If another Rs 10 to 12 crore are spent on the Haritha hotel project, the works will be completed and it will be position of ready-to-occupy and start earning revenues.
