Centre’s nod for model degree colleges in AP

In a response to a question of Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao on the Centre\'s initiative to establish model degree colleges in the notified Educationally Backward Districts of the Country, Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State for HRD, replied here on Thursday that Anantapur, East Godavari, Kurnool, Prakasam, West Godavari, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh had been sanctioned.
New Delhi: In a response to a question of Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao on the Centre's initiative to establish model degree colleges in the notified Educationally Backward Districts of the Country, Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State for HRD, replied here on Thursday that Anantapur, East Godavari, Kurnool, Prakasam, West Godavari, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh had been sanctioned.
Adilabad, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad and Medak had been selected in Telangana for the same, he said. The Gross Enrollment Ratio in these districts in Higher Education is less than the national average of 12. 4 per cent based on 2001 census.
