Many slum pockets uncovered

Neither the District Collector not Chittoor MLA D A Satya Prabha took part in the PPI held on Sunday. District Medical and Health Officer Dr.Vijaya Gouri who is the implementing authority of PPI administered the pulse polio drops to certain children at Urban Health Centre.

It is learnt that many of the slum areas in Chittoor, Madanapalle, Tirupati, Srikalahasti and Punganur municipal institutions were uncovered under the PPI due to lack of active monitoring and planning. As a result many of the eligible children particularly in the remote villages and the slum areas were deprived for PPI vaccine .

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, DMHO Dr. Vijaya Gouri admitted that certain group of children would have been left out in covering under PPI programme due to various reasons. “ A strict strategic planning had been envisaged to cover 4,57,166 children under the PPI on April 2.

Instructions had been given all the medial personnel to deploy the trained nurses at 2984 PPI centres covering all the cities and the villages. Due to scorching sun, some the children who were targeted could not avail the opportunity.

But our designated staff would visit all the houses individually by tomorrow and day after tomorrow and administer the pulse polio drops to all the left over children ‘ she added.

She maintained that no lapses have been witnessed from the medical staff in implementing the PPI programme.Dr. Venkata Prasad , District TB Officer and , Dr. Surekha, District Immunization officer were also present.
