Eluru: The corruption charges, caste equations played a big role in the ouster of mines, women and child welfare minister Peethala Sujatha in the state cabinet reshuffle. The Minister who was from Dalit community has faced humiliation in the party in the hands of Denduluru MLA Chintaneni Prabhakar, Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao and ZP chairman Mullapudi Bapiraju from the day of her induction into the state Cabinet.
The teacher-turned-politician Peethala Sujatha was in the good books of CM and also scored top rank in ministerial ratings but lost her way
The former Minister Sujatha who hails from Veeravasram village in rich Delta area earlier worked as a teacher before stepping into politics. Earlier, she contested from Achanta Constituency as it was reserved to Scheduled Castes and won on TDP ticket during 2004 elections from Achanta.
Later, in 2014, she contested from Chintalapudi constituency on TDP ticket as the constituency was reserved for SCs and got a berth in the State Cabinet.During the last three years, there were allegations of corruption against her. One of the allegation was that she received Rs 10 lakh from a person to get him a job.
The amount was recovered by police in her residence at Veeravasaram village in the district. However, the police did not establish the truth in this case. Later, there were allegations that she pressurised the Women and Child welfare department officials for gold ornaments and in Kurnool, the officials presented gold ornaments to her.
All these allegations annoyed Chief Minister N Chandrababu for the last two years. Besides these corruption charges, she has faced a tough weather in the caste-dominant Telugu Desam Party. She suffered humiliation in the hands of Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar, Eluru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao and ZP Chairman Mullapudi Bapiraju, the trio happens to be the upper-caste that dominated the party also.
Despite several allegations, she made attempts to be in the good books of Chief Minister and once she got the first rank in performance. However, the media played a prominent role in promoting her as the best. However, during the course, the Chief Minister was dissatisfied with her efficiency. Before the reshuffling of the State Cabinet, speculations were making rounds in TDP circles that Peethala Sujatha might lose her berth in the Cabinet.
