As predicted earlier, the temperature levels have been ascending in Chittoor district during the last fifteen days. 40.01 degrees Celsius temperature has been recorded in Chittoor on Thursday followed by 41.0 degrees on Friday. As a result, heat wave is scorching the people right from 10 am to night 11 pm.

The people are facing sun stroke threat in all the parts of the district. Official reports from district administration reveal that three old persons were dead due to sun stroke during the last one week. Many of the aged persons and young kids are badly hit by sun stroke and getting treatment both in private and Government hospitals. During the official visit of Industries

Minister N.Amaranatha Reddy to Chittoor district after assuming the charge as minister on Friday, many of the people of Chandragiri, Puthalapattu and other centres have made a fervent appeal to provide drinking water in view of the depletion of ground water levels . The Minister assured at Chittoor that the Government has already instructed the district administration to take immediate steps for transporting drinking water both for urban and rural areas. The Minister has come to know that 320 villages in the district are reeling under acute problem for drinking water.

Particularly in Chittoor city, the Chittoor Municipal Corporation is said to be very busy for holding the by elections for Chittoor Mayor seat slated on April 15. Due to enforcing of the election code, the Chittoor Municipal Corporation has failed to initiate a step for mitigating the drinking water problem in the city. The water level in NTR Jalasayam, the lone water source for Chittoor city has receded drastically.

People are resorting to purchase water in the city. As a result of terrifying temperature, public are afraid to come out in the day. By and large, all the educational institutions are running the classes by morning and closing by noon. It is feared that the temperature levels of the district would be very alarming in the coming three weeks. Mean while , several voluntary organisations have opened kiosks in at various locations in Chittoor city.
