Neeru- Pragati will help state to fight drought: Siddha
Minister for Forests, Environment, Science and Technology Siddha Raghava Rao said that the ‘Neeru- Pragati’ programme will make the state fight against the drought. He participated in the ‘Neeru- Pragati’ rally taken out from the Collectorate to Ranga Bhavan, along with MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and In-charge Collector Dr M Hari Jawaharlal and other officials.
Ongole: Minister for Forests, Environment, Science and Technology Siddha Raghava Rao said that the ‘Neeru- Pragati’ programme will make the state fight against the drought. He participated in the ‘Neeru- Pragati’ rally taken out from the Collectorate to Ranga Bhavan, along with MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and In-charge Collector Dr M Hari Jawaharlal and other officials. The Minister inaugurated the Neeru- Pragati meeting at Ranga Bhavan and said that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is linking rivers to make the state free from drought in future.
He said that Polavaram will be completed by 2018 and become a jewel in the history of the state. The first phase of the Veligonda project will be completed by 2018 and the tender process for tunneling from backside is also gaining momentum.
He pointed out that about 1000 tmc feet of water from Godavari is being rerouted through Pattiseema project to provide water for 60,000 acres in the district.
He asked the officials to take the Neeru Pragati programme as a drive for 90 days and take up watershed works, desilting, borewell recharge pits, rain water soaking pits and chain linking of tanks as a movement in the district.Collector Hari Jawaharlal said that the DWMA and irrigation department jointly take up the works and see that desilting works in the check dams, irrigation ponds and tanks are completed.
He asked the public to construct rain water soaking pits and see every drop of water is saved. He asked the officials to work with an aim that the water levels should not drop below eight metres in summer and three metres in monsoon.Irrigation department chief engineer Veerraju, superintending engineer O Sarada, DWMA PD N Polappa, DRDA PD MS Murali, JD of agriculture J Muralikrishna, officials of irrigation and other departments also participated in the programme.
