Vizianagaram: AP government and Indian Railways are gearing up to solve the hectic traffic problem by constructing underground and fly over in this town. The new fly over and underground passage will definitely help the vehicles to have hassle- free journey. At present the age old fly over is being used to cross the railway track in Vizianagaram town and the bridge is very narrow as the fly over was constructed during British regime as per the requirement of those days. But gradually the number of vehicles has increased and the old flyover is not in a position to serve the present traffic requirements. Around Rs.10 crore is being sanctioned to build the fly over and underground passage.

Union Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju personally experienced the traffic hurdles here and brought permissions and funds from Ministry of Railways and inaugurated the project in May 2016. The works are going in rapid way and even the underground road work is also in progress. Around 30 engineers and other technicians are working day and night to complete the project shortly and the cranes and other material was brought from Vijayawada. The flyover is also being constructed in innovative method and just fixing the bridge in pre-fabricated mode.

Once the project gets completed the vehicles passing towards Salur and Bobbili can move through underground passage and the vehicles coming from return journey can come by the fly over. The fly over also is being constructed in the model of Howrah bridge and its attracting the public. Huge cranes are being used to lift the pre-fabricated parts.K. Ramana, a lorry driver said.

“Generally I travel between Vizianagaram and Salur around 15 times in a month and every time I face so much trouble to drive my lorry on the old fly over here. If the new project is completed vehicular movement will be benefited more and can travel in a relaxed manner” he said.Recently the Union Minister visited the place and reviewed the progress of the works with district administration later said “We have committed to the development of Vizianagaram and regularly supervising the progress of works and even ready to get some more projects for the convenience of public.” He said.
