According to police, Boppana Srinivasa Rao of Dharmavaram village of Kovvuru mandal performed the marriage of his first daughter on April 21.

Eluru: Two burglars decamped with 27 sovereigns (of about 216 grams) of gold ornaments from a marriage party’s house in Dharmavaram village of Kovvuru mandal in West Godavari district, on Tuesday midnight. According to police, Boppana Srinivasa Rao of Dharmavaram village of Kovvuru mandal performed the marriage of his first daughter on April 21. A number of Relatives and friends stayed back at Srinivasa Rao’s residence after the wedding.

The doors and windows were left open at night due to severe heat. On Tuesday, around midnight two burglars entered the house and robbed 27 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 27,000 cash from the cupboard. Later, the accused attempted to snatch 3 sovereigns gold chain from Srinivasa Rao’s younger daughter. The burglars fled away as the young girl who was asleep raised an alarm, said police. A case was registered by Kovvuru rural police. Rural CI G Sarath Rajkumar along with dog squad and finger print experts also visited the spot.
