Ongole: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board expressed its helplessness about the disputed construction of an aqua park at Tundurru village in West Godavari district.

The member secretary of the Board BSS Prasad said that the company falls under the medium effluent category and just environmental clearance is enough for the setting up of the factory.

The APPCB launched Paryavarana Sarvasvam, a magazine aimed at creating awareness on environment among industries management as well as the common public and the first copy was released by the minister for forests, environment, science and technology Sidda Raghava Rao at his camp office in Ongole on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, “A healthy industrial growth in the state can be achieved only with the control of pollution. The government is ready to encourage the industrialists but they should strictly follow the pollution control mechanism in force and we are ready to seize any industry violating the pollution control norms and damaging the environment.

The pollution control board will conduct frequent checking on the industries and take necessary action on the violators.”

BSS Prasad, member secretary of the APPCB said, “It is the responsibility of everyone to control pollution in the environment. We are ready to give necessary permissions for the new industries in 21 days depending on its category.

We have also liberalised the rules and regulations for the industries and once they have renewed the approvals, they need not do it for five to seven years now. But we are strict in the implementation of the pollution standards of emission and effluents from the industries.”

Responding to the question on the aqua park at Tundurru, Prasad said, “The aqua park falls under the orange category of industries and environmental clearance is enough to start it and there is no need for a public hearing for it. But the company received the permission by stating that there will be zero liquid discharge from it.

That means the company should treat the effluent inside the plant and the final liquid should not be more than 110 Kilo Litres per day.

This water should be used for inland irrigation purposes in the factory and not a single drop of water should be pumped out. If there is any violation in the conditions, after it starts working, then APPCB can interfere and take action on it.”

The APPCB regional officer M Pramod Kumar Reddy, PRO G Sanyasi Rao and other officers of the board participated in the launch of the magazine.
