Eluru: West Godavari district Collector K Bhaskar said that a plan will be implemented for the economic uplift of women by setting up of one lakh small business units in the district.

The Collector participated as a chief guest at the District Mahila Samakhya meeting held at TTDC, Vatluru, on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the plan was aimed to encourage every woman to earn Rs 10,000 per month. About 6.29 lakh women are members in the DWCRA groups.

For their economic uplift, it was decided to construct shopping complexes in 909 villages in the district. The women and unemployed youth conduct the business in those shopping complexes, he added.

He said that about one lakh small business units will be started this year to make available all necessary items to the rural people. He stated that women were getting bank linkage loans of Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore every year.

However, the women are diverting the funds. Stating that it is not a right system, he suggested to the women to set up a business that provides employment to at least 10 persons.

He pointed out that training and awareness programmes are being conducted in the district to women. He said the district administration will also impart training to self-help group women in computer operation. It is also decided to turn women in rural areas into literates.

He said a Grama Mahila Samakhya building will be constructed in every panchayat at a cost of Rs 100 crore. DRDA Project Director K Srinivasulu, District Mahila Samakhya president Nalini Kumari and others participated.
