Power cut rattles residents of coastal districts

There was power cut for more than 12 hours in different parts of APEPDCL region, which has jurisdiction over Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari district and the officials claimed that technical problems led to prolonged power cuts.
The discom demand is 2,673 mega watts, while the supply is also the same and there is no reason to have load shedding during the current weather conditions.
Chief general manager (operations) of APEPDCL PVV Satyanarayana said there was technical problems at Visakhapatnam switching station, problem in the 220 KV lines between Pendurthy and Upper Sileru and snapping of conductor between Gangavaram and Kakinada.
The CGM claimed that there was power interruption for only day and normal supply has been resumed. But contrary to his claims, Visakhapatnam and all the districts in the discom region had power cuts on Friday as well.
Reports from rural East and West Godavari said the power cuts became order of the day since April first week.
