The Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) is preparing a master plan for next two decades keeping pilgrim city’s growth in mind. The TUDA entered into an agreement with the Lee Associates, Delhi for drafting master plan. As per the instructions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the TUDA officials are marking the areas in between Tirupati-Srikalahasti as a special industrial zone.

Tirupati: The Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) is preparing a master plan for next two decades keeping pilgrim city’s growth in mind. The TUDA entered into an agreement with the Lee Associates, Delhi for drafting master plan. As per the instructions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the TUDA officials are marking the areas in between Tirupati-Srikalahasti as a special industrial zone.

In 2008, the TUDA prepared a master plan with Tirupati city and 89 villages of Renigunta, Chandragiri and Tirupati rural mandals spread over 650 km. The urban development authority wants to expand master plan with Tirupati Municipal Corporation and the inclusion of the Srikalahasti and Puttur municipalities and 150 more villages to the existing villages, as per old master plan, spread over 1211 km. New master plan is being prepared for next 18 years up to 2035.

In new master plan, IIT and IISER Tirupati campuses, International Airport at Renigunta, NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Limited at Mannavaram, Krishnapatnam-Chennai-Yerpedu industrial corridor and other national reputed institutes and industries will be included.

The TUDA officials already indentified land for multi-usages with the cooperation of APIIC, Revenue, Municipal, Irrigation and Forest departments. It has conducted a study on land requirement for public and private utility for future needs and the same was incorporated in new master plan.

The plan is being drafted keeping population growth in future, increase in vehicular traffic and mass transport needs. The Lee Associates will be advising the TUDA on long, medium and short-term development plants for pilgrim city development. The master plan will have development of lakes for residents to spend time in the evenings.

For the first time, the TUDA officials have identified water bodies for including them in new master plan so that they can be developed as tourist spots. Officials concerned are busy in collecting data from all departments for incorporating the same in new master plan.

The TUDA is marking Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC), IT SEZ and Incubation Centre near the airport to include in master plan. Speaking to The Hans India, TUDA Vice-Chairman (V-C) C Hari Kiran said that draft master plan will be made public by June ending or in July.

Before finalising the master plan, the V-C said master plan details will be submitted to the Chief Minister for final approval. After Chief Minister’s consent, final master plan will be made available in public.
