Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President N Raghuveera Reddy said that the ‘Special Category Status is not a closed chapter or history. The Congress will fight uninterruptedly to get the SCS to the state’. He was speaking at the District Congress Committee extensive meeting held at Bhimavaram on Saturday.

Bhimavaram: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President N Raghuveera Reddy said that the ‘Special Category Status is not a closed chapter or history. The Congress will fight uninterruptedly to get the SCS to the state’. He was speaking at the District Congress Committee extensive meeting held at Bhimavaram on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi is visiting Bhimavaram on June 4 to give assurance to the five crore Andhra people on the SCS. He said that besides Rahul Gandhi, 14 national party leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Suravaram Sudhakara Reddy, D Raja, JDU leader Sharad Yadav, K Mohan, MCPI and CPM leaders will also participate in the meeting.

He alleged that the TDP and BJP have weakened the Special Category Status. He said that the SCS is Andhra Pradesh lifeline and an assurance for the future. He said that the Congress with a view to pressurise the government to implement the issues inserted in Special Status Act for the benefit of the Andhra Pradesh has called 14 national leaders to the meeting.

He recalled that during the freedom struggle, Bhimavaram played a remarkable role and in 1942 Quit India movement, four youth lost their lives. He called on the people to make the public meeting a success.AICC Secretary Sailajanath said that the Centre has violated its promise of SCS to Andhra Pradesh.

The Ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh also did not talk on the SCS and it is trying to weaken the demand. He alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu has pledged the SCS to BJP government to come out of the note for vote case. He alleged that after the BJP came to power, attacks on Dalits, weaker sections, Adivasis have risen.

Former Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi said that during BJP regime, attacks on women are on high note. She said if the Congress came to power, it is the only party which can protect women. DCC President Rafiullah Baig, Former MP Kanumuri Bapiraju, Party Convenor Yarlagadda Ramu and others participated.
