The District Tourism Promotion Committee has prepared a comprehensive project report to develop world famous fresh water lake Kolleru as a tourist centre in West Godavari district. It has decided to spend Rs.187 crores for the development of the lake, according to District Collector K Bhaskar.

Eluru: The District Tourism Promotion Committee has prepared a comprehensive project report to develop world famous fresh water lake Kolleru as a tourist centre in West Godavari district. It has decided to spend Rs.187 crores for the development of the lake, according to District Collector K Bhaskar.

The Collector presided over the meeting of the District Tourism Promotion Committee meeting held at Collectorate here on Saturday. The Collector has directed the tourism officials to submit the project report to the Government for approval. He said that the world famous Kolleru Lake will be developed in all aspects to attract tourists.

According to the Project report, the development would be taken up with private and public partnership and the Centre will sanction financial assistance. The Collector reviewed the tourism project works that were taken up with Rs.658 crores.

He directed officials to hand over the cottages maintenance at Koruturu village in Polavaram Mandal to contract agencies. He questioned the officials for not calling the tenders of lighting, landscaping and a cafeteria at Valandhar Revu on the bank of River Vasistha Godavari in Narsapur. He directed the officials to complete the tenders within two days immediately with Rs.40 Lakhs.

The R and B guest houses in Eluru, Chintalapudi, Polavaram, Kovvuru, Nidadavole, Tadepalligudem, Kamavarapukota, Nallajerla, Bhimadole, Tadikelapudi, Gopalapuram, Undi, Koyyalagudem be divided into A, B, C categories and an agreement between R and B and Tourism should be completed, he added. The DWAMA and Tourism departments should take up the road works between Sidhantham-Mallavaram.

He said that the Multiplex shopping malls and convention centres will be taken up in Tadepalligudem Bus Stand area and these constructions would be taken up with a private and public partnership.The officials told the collector that the excise officials permitted to run bars in the restaurants arranged in Sidhdhantham, Yerrakalva, Polavaram, Dongaravipalem, Pedamallam, Valandhar Revu and Chinchinada.

The Collector directed the officials to monitor these bars and take steps in not selling cheap liquor. DRDA Project Director K Srinivas, Tourism Regional Director Bhimashankar, DFO N Nageswara Rao, Assistant Tourism officer Pattabhi and others participated in the meeting.
