Seek hike in compensation to Rs 10,000

Getting by two months with just Rs 4,000 is not possible. In other states, Rs 10,000 to 15,000 is being doled out in same period. We want the government to increase the compensation to at least Rs 10,000.”To get the compensation from the government, the fishermen should register with the fisheries department, before the start of ban period. The officials verify the details and sanction the package.

Kokkilagadda Venkateswarlu, a fisherman of Pakala area near Singarayakonda said, “You should be surprised if the compensation credits into your account before the ban period ends. It is a regular phenomenon that the officials start crediting the money to you after two or three weeks of the end of the ban. We spend this ban period by taking loans from contractors and other financiers.”
