Chittoor: In response to the instructions given by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, it has been decided to nurture Chittoor district as a horticulture hub in which the departmental heads should take active part for achieving the said task said District Collector PS Pradyumna. As many 40,000 ha. of additional land should be brought under horticulture cultivation during the year with the active participation of the farmers he added.

Reviewing the progress of horticulture front in Chittoor district with the concerned departmental officers at a meeting held at the Collectorate on Saturday, Pradyumna recalled that a pledge was taken in the just concluded Nava Nirmana Deeksha programme to drive the district on fast development track with commitment “There is a wide potential for tapping horticulture farming. Right now, horticulture crops are being raised in an extent of 1, 59,654 ha. in the district.

During the year, 40,000 ha. of additional extent should be developed in horticulture sector. Awareness should be created among the farmers in the regard. The concerned officers should strive seriously for reaching the target” he added. Impetus should be given for rising vegetables, floriculture, and fruits in the newly proposed horticulture extent. Drip and sprinklers should invariably be introduced in horticulture cultivation. Short term crops should be entertained the District Collector declared.
