Chittoor losing district headquarters status?
“The district headquarters status of Chittoor should never be undermined and all the district related programmes should be commenced from Chittoor only. Tirupati is only a spiritual city which is to be merely developed in that direction’ This was the assurance given by Chief Minister long back who is committed to develop Chittoor city on par with Tirupati.

Then Forest Minister B. Gopalakrishna Reddy and Chittoor MP Dr. N. Siva Prasad have categorically declared that ignoring Chittoor at the cost of Tirupati development should never be allowed or entertained. As against the instructions of the Government heads, most of district related programmes, review meets or the visits of the ministers or bureaucrats still are confined to Tirupati only.
Many of the state minister use to Tirupati for dual purpose (Teertha Yatra plus official visit). They conduct review meetings at Tirupati in many cases. All the concerned departmental heads from Chittoor visit Tirupati for attending the Ministers’ review meets.
Even Legislative Committees confine their visits to Tirupati only. In rare cases, the Committees used to conduct the review meetings at Chittoor.
Chittoor city is now well developed with excellent transport connectivity. District Collectorate, SP office, Zilla Parishad, Agriculture offices, commercial tax offices are all here. There are five star hotels too. It is a matter of one - hour journey from Tirupati to Chittoor. The visitors of Tirupati can have access to visit Kanipakam, Golden Temple, Ardhagiri Temple, CMC Vellore etc if they are interested to visit Chittoor.
In recent times, many of the district related programs are held at Tirupati. Mahasankalpam, the conclusive day of Nava Nirmana Deeksha has been held at Tirupati. While this valedictory function was held at the district head quarters of 12 districts in the state, it took place in Tirupati in Chittoor district.
