Vijayawada: The members of Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) staged protest against the state government’s move to close about 6000 government schools under the rationalisation system. PDSU burnt copies of the GO 29 and 33 at STVR government school, BRTS road, Durgapuram on Monday.

PDSU state president Ravi Chandra demanded that the GO issued by the government for closure of schools under rationalisation should be withdrawn immediately. He said that closing of schools with less number of students was wrong and said that it would make the poor, SC, ST students far away from education.

He further said that without filling the teachers post and providing basic facilities at the schools how will the student number increase he demanded. Uniforms, text books were not delivered till date to most of the schools even after the academic year had started.

He said that the government had no control over the fee structure of private and corporate schools and they had made education a business. He further blamed ministers Gandta Srinivas Rao and Narayana who were behind the present situation of government schools closure.
