Visakhapatnam: In order to put the unutilised lands for commercial use, the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) has initiated the development of seven new road networks in the city. As part of the Master Plan, the VUDA has identified 25 new roads in and around the city.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, vice-chairman of VUDA P Basanth Kumar said that out of the total 25 new roads, they have decided to lay and develop seven new roads so that around 30,000 acres of land could be utilised for commercial purposes.

He said that the engineering department has already swung into action to develop the roads. VUDA is now focusing on the development of more urban infrastructure, he added.

Basant Kumar said that after the bifurcation of the state, the government has announced that VUDA would take steps to develop the infrastructure in Visakhapatnam, anticipating more investments from various nations. Though there is a huge extent of lands available on the outskirts of the city, they have become under-utilised due to the poor maintenance of roads, Kumar added. He agreed that there was some delay in completing the works.

The VUDA vice-chairman said that to make use of these lands and earn commercial profits, the VUDA has decided to develop seven roads on a priority basis. They include the Pedamushidiwada-Tri Junction Road at an estimated cost of Rs 7.60 crore, Lankelapalem Junction- Sabbavaram Road at Nakkavanipalem at a cost of Rs.44.04 crore,

the Visakha Valley School Road at an estimated project cost of Rs 6.40 crore, the Rushikonda satellite layout-Beach Road at a cost of Rs. 2.36 crore, Duvvada Railway Station- Kurmannapalem Road at a cost of Rs 8.40 crore, Vepagunta Junction to Pinagadi Junction Road at Rs 36 crore and the Y Junction- Bheemili Beach Road (Dorathota Road) at a cost of Rs 31.84 crore.
