Appointment of Durga Temple Chairman

Amaravati: The BJP is to share Durga temple chairman post with Telugu Desam as each one from both parties get to enjoy power equally for one year of the two- year total tenure. The senior leaders from Telugu Desam Yalamanchali Gouranga Babu and Veeramachineni Ranga Prasad from BJP would share the chairman post for one year each.

The BJP is very keen to get equal priority in temple chairman posts especially in TTD and Durga temple. The party unit is determined to get some priority at least in temple committees when the rank and file of its party who have hardcore RSS and VHP background forced the leadership on this front. They pointed out when the Telugu Desam is sharing power and getting support from Centre the same priority and support should be given to BJP in allotment of nominated posts.

Recently TTD executive officer Anil Kumar Singhal had been proposed for the prestigious post by BJP national level leadership too. Later, BJP confined itself to get member positions in TTD Board in the forthcoming expansion which is expected to be finalised soon.

Following the developments, the BJP leadership strongly moved its party candidate Ranga Prasad for Durga temple chairman post. Yalamanchali Gouranga Babu’s name had been announced some months ago for the post of Durga temple committee chairman. But after pressure from BJP, the board finalisation had been delayed according to sources but finally TDP got nod under sharing formula for the chairman post.

But under this hidden agreement Telugu Desam would get first chance and second year period would be allotted to BJP leader Veeramachineni Ranga Prasad who is very close to Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu from his student days.

The government, presently has announced a 16- member trust board with the names of Yalamanchali Gouranga Babu and Ranga Prasad but has not mentioned anyone’s name for chairman post.

The board would elect the chairman as per the GO given by state government on coming Wednesday. One BJP senior leader on condition of anonymity said that both Telugu Desam and BJP have come to an understanding on seat sharing.
