Guntur: Minister for Irrigation Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Minister for Civil Supplies Prathipati Pulla Rao and Minister for Social Welfare Nakka Anand Babu switched on the button at Sitanagaram near the Prakasam Barrage and released water into the canal on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Devineni said that they were able to release water to the Krishna Western Delta (KWD) in Guntur district due to the steps taken by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

He assured the farmers that the state government would release sufficient water from the Pattiseema project to the KWD and urged them to take up cultivation. He announced that the state government allotted Rs 270 crore for the modernisation of Kondaveetivagu stream and the problem of flooding would be resolved soon.

He said Chandrababu Naidu was giving top priority for the welfare of farmers. He urged the Water Distribution Committee members to highlight and give publicity to the steps taken by the government for the development of irrigation sector in the state.
