Amaravati: Energy minister K Kala Venkata Rao said that his department is carrying out an exercise to reduce the electricity charges to fulfill the assurance made by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

He launched a new website ‘www.ceigap.com’ designed by Electricity Department as part of its initiative on ease of doing business at Secretariat on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said this website will be more helpful for the industrialists where they can upload their application for power connection and also pay power bills.

Following the directions of the Chief Minister, a meeting was conducted with the officials of Transmission Corporation on Wednesday to discuss about the action plan to be implemented for the ensuing two years, he said.

Recalling the post bifurcation period where the State suffered huge power shortage during 2014-15, the Minister said that the State has successfully overcome the power deficit as the steps taken to reduce transmission losses and prevent power pilferage yielded fruitful results.

The availability of 4,000 MW solar and wind power came as a boon to the State’s power generation, which has now reached a stage of 11 per cent surplus, he stated.

He said that the officials were discussing with bankers for reduction of interest rate on the borrowed loans, as it will reduce the burden on the department.

Similarly, measures are being taken to collect the dues from various government departments which are pending for several years, he said.

Keeping in view the huge demand for power in the coming days as several industries are going to be established in the Capital Amaravati and the agricultural needs, measures are being taken for increase the power generation, the Minister said. Principal Secretary Ajay Jain and other officials were present.
