Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad issued notices to the Union Cabinet Secretary, Union Law Secretary and Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary directing them to file counter-affidavits in a plea seeking direction for the establishment of Andhra Pradesh High Court in Kurnool.

The division bench comprising of acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T Rajani issued notices, while hearing a PIL filed by advocate J Narayanaswamy.

The petitioner complained that despite this court also giving directions for setting up the AP High Court after bifurcation of the state, it is not being implemented.

The petitioner sought a direction for setting up the High Court in Kurnool as it was part of the Gentlemen’s Agreement (Sreebagh) in 1937 itself between the leaders of Andhra and Rayalaseema.

The bench questioned the petitioner as to who will decide where the High Court must be. It issued notices to the respondents and adjourned the matter.
