Visakhapatnam: Listening to the demands and concerns of the sanitary staff workers, who were protesting for the last two days across the state, the government has decided to stall the implementation of GO No 279 on Thursday.

Nearly, 4,200 workers from all the municipal bodies in the state participated in the three-day protest. Workers Union leader P Venkata Reddy said in a meeting with Principal Secretary Karikal Valavan, the government has agreed to the workers’ demands and called off the tenders too.

The government also promised to give Rs 12,000 for unskilled labourers, Rs 15,000 for semi-skilled labourers and Rs 17,500 for skilled labourers as per the GO 151, he said. According to Venkata Reddy, the government also assured of issuing health cards and opening of GPF accounts for which the orders would be issued to the treasury.

CITU city secretary RKSV Kumar said the municipal workers movement would always be supported by the CITU. Several other union leaders and workers participated in the protest.
