The Chief Minister announced allocation of 100 more acres to the university for establishing a medical college and hospital. Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the new campus, Naidu said the state government was giving top priority to education to make Andhra Pradesh a knowledge hub. “Inauguration of SRM University is the first step in the process of making Andhra Pradesh a knowledge hub.

VIT University campus will also be inaugurated in August. Several other private universities will also come to Amaravati soon,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the SRM University was investing Rs 3,024 crore offering best courses to around 50,000 students in the Amaravati campus. Around 226 students have already joined the first year course in the university, he said. “I suggested to the SRM University authorities that the Amaravati campus should be the best campus in India offering best courses,” he said.

Naidu has also announced 100 acres in addition to the existing 200 acres to the SRM University to set up a medical college and hospital at Amaravati campus. “We will discuss the matter in the next Cabinet meeting on giving another 100 acres to SRM University. We will give priority to medicine also along with IT education,” he added.

Taking on Opposition parties, the Chief Minister said they were provoking farmers and filed petitions creating hurdles to the development of Amaravati. “No one can obstruct the construction of new capital. Work on the Polavaram project is also going on a war footing,” he said.

He urged the Centre to pass bills in Parliament as early as possible for the establishment of the Central and Tribal Universities in the state. Naidu said the state had been facing shortage of resources comparing with Telangana as it didn’t have a capital city like Hyderabad. “Revenue resources will not be improved without having big cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. Keeping it in mind, we are developing nine major cities and 25 townships in Amaravati,” he said.

Union minister Venkaiah Naidu said Andhra Pradesh was going forward in the education sector with the encouragement of the Chief Minister. “It is a good decision of the Chief Minister to set up SRM University under Public Private Partnership (PPP),” he said.

He also said the Centre would sanction another 10,000 – 20,000 new houses for sthe urban poor and support the state on all fronts.

SRM University Chairman T R Patchamuttu, Vice Chancellor Narayana Rao, president Dr P Satyanarayana, ministers, MLAs and officials were present.
