Amaravati: In contrast to the earlier plans, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday directed the officials not to impose English medium forcefully on the students of municipal schools and told them that the students who opt voluntarily should be joined in English medium.

While conducting a review meeting on Municipal Administration Department along with Minister P Narayana at the Secretariat, he expressed satisfaction over the increase in students’ enrolment in municipal schools.

Minister Narayana pointed out that after introduction of IIT foundation courses, the enrolment in municipal schools has increased.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the move to make Anganwadi centres as pre-schools have been yielding good results and 90,000 textbooks worth Rs 3 crore have been distributed to the children. They said that the pre-schools have been provided painting and sports equipment at a cost of about Rs 4 lakh.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to act as facilitators in conducting Happy Sunday where the people can present their programmes according to their wish.

The officials told that from next Sunday onwards they will conduct Happy Sunday programme in 110 towns and cities across the State.

Asking the officials to ensure making the 110 towns and cities in the State as poster-free areas, the Chief Minister directed the officials to beautify the walls on either side of the road in Municipal areas with paints and other artistic works.
