Giving details of the arrests, DCP (Law and Order) of North Zone, Dr K Fakeerappa and DCP (Crimes) Shemushi Bajpai said though it was a case of attempt to commit dacoity, it ended in murder after Vikram Dhamija resisted the attack. The arrested were identified as Ch Satyanarayana Murthy, maintenance manager of Sea Surf Apartment, Riyaz and Navab Ansari.

Police teams fanned out to nab Murthy’s friend Fareed and seven others of the inter-state gang involved in this crime.
The DCP said Satyanarayana Murthy and Fareed incurred losses to the tune of Rs 20 lakh in the real estate business. In order to recover the losses, the duo hatched a plan to rob Vikram to overcome the losses.

Murthy, who also resides in the Sea Surf apartment knew Vikram Dhamija was rich and immediate solution to their financial crisis.The duo engaged a nine-member dacoity gang from Jharkhand to threaten Vikram and squeeze out cash and gold jewellery. On July 17, around at 3.45 pm four members of the gang entered into Vikram’s house while two of them waited near entry point of the Vikram’s flat. Another three members waited in a vehicle outside the apartment.

Soon after entering the flat, the gang threatened Vikram with toy pistol and knives. While Vikram refused to pay the money his driver Janardhan tried to rush out to inform the neighbours. The culprits stabbed Janardhan, Vikram and Vikram’s wife Jyothi in an attempt to flee from the spot. A severely injured Vikram died on July 18 in a corporate hospital.

The DCP said the CCTV footage helped them to solve the case. At the time of crime Satyanarayana Murthy was in the cellar of the apartment and made no effort to stop the criminals when they were escaping from the spot.``The footage helped us get vital clues which helped us to establish the mastermind behind the crime, ‘’ he added. Riyaz and Navab Ansari of the gang were arrested in West Bengal and the hunt is on for others, he added.
