Vijayawada: Civil Supplies Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao announced that the government would establish village malls in urban areas and mandals in about a week and later would establish them all over the state if the response was good.

The Minister addressed the media after conducting surprise checks on fair price shops on Monday and senior citizens can produce photo identity proof to receive commodities at the fair price shop if the biometric was not functioning. Surprise checks were conducted at shop 226 at Eluru Road and shop 288 at Krishnalanka.

The Minister personally asked the card holders whether the dealer was providing all the specified commodities with exact weighment, and ordered the weights and measures department officials to check them. 15 card holders who cannot come to fair price shop, the commodities were delivered to their houses with the authentication of VRO. About 1.42 crore card holders in the state were getting benefited and they can call 1100 to complain on the dealer for any irregularities.

The Minister said Pre-Packed was no more allowed in the State and six-month notice was given earlier and strict action will be taken for violating the rules. For establishing village malls offers were received by the government from Big Bazaar, Reliance and others, and with village malls the customers would be benefited by 20 per cent, said the minister.Civil Supplies Manager Ravi Babu, DSO G Nageswara Rao, ASO, Udaybhaskar and other officers were present.
