Vijayawada: The bandh call given by Students Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Federation (AISF), Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) and Progressive Democratic Students Organisation (PDSO) on Thursday was successful. Students from schools, colleges and engineering colleges voluntarily participated in the bandh. All the students and union leaders gathered at the Sarada College, Satyanarayanapuram.

Earlier the students’ leaders approached the government with their demands. SFI state president Y Ramu and PDSU state leader Ravi Chandra said they had demanded the government stop closing government schools in the name of rationalisation and provide proper infrastructure at the schools, increase mess charges and cancel GO 14 and AP Self-finance Independent School Act 2017.

AISF state president M Subba Rao demanded the government to fill all the vacant posts, improve varsities in the state and solve pending issues besides releasing of scholarship and fee reimbursement arrears and put a check on fee structure of corporate institutions.

PDSO state leader Shaik Baji said the government should take responsibility of providing education from KG to PG and stop encouraging corporate bodies to supply midday meals as the schoolchildren are not happy.
