In the wake of rising of numerous doubts and fears over nuclear power generation the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has launched a multi-pronged mass awareness campaign on it in Srikakulam district. The NPCIL is constructing a nuclear power project (NPP) at Kovvada village in Ranastalam mandal in Srikakulam district.

Srikakulam: In the wake of rising of numerous doubts and fears over nuclear power generation the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has launched a multi-pronged mass awareness campaign on it in Srikakulam district. The NPCIL is constructing a nuclear power project (NPP) at Kovvada village in Ranastalam mandal in Srikakulam district.

With an aim to educate people on NPP and its various benefits, practical usability and safety this mobile exhibition is going on. ‘Exhibition on Wheels’ is a unique campaign organising across the district to dispel the myths and apprehensions about nuclear energy from the minds of the people through a mobile vehicle.

This kind of campaigning is being launched in the local districts where NPPs are proposed across the country. Previously NPCIL organised a tour to Kudankulam NPP in Tamil Nadu for district officials and Kovvada and surrounding villagers to clear their doubts over NPP.

In Srikakulam, the mobile exhibition covered 170 villages in Polaki, Gara, Srikakulam mandals and now is going on in Ranastalam mandal. This exhibition is planning to cover Etcherla, Laveru, Ponduru and G.Sigadam mandals also. The awareness campaign is being conduct with with slide shows, photos, power point etc., at schools, colleges, grama panchayati offices in all villages and urban areas.

Experts and scientists are explaining about need of atomic energy and safety measures in its generation and advanced technology to prevent any untoward incidents. In addition to campaigning, literature on atomic energy like attractive comic books and other materials were distributed to stake holders to help them gain awareness about the nuclear energy in a simple way.

There are doubts among people over nuclear power and we are launching the mobile campaign to clear them Kovvada NPP director, G.V.Ramesh told The Hans India. “We covered 170 villages in three mandals so far and awareness campaign is going on in Ranastalam mandal and will cover another three mandals which are situated around the proposed NPP,” said mobile exhibition in-charge and additional chief engineer of Kovvada NPP, P Bangarayya Setti.
