Penukonda: A housewife, Deepa, has complained to the Penukonda police accusing her mother-in-law, Savudamani, of subjecting her to harassment to convert to Christianity after she got married to the latter’s son Anil. Unable to bear the harassment, Anil had shifted to Warangal. However, since four months he was not coming home.

This forced Deepa to visit the house of Savudamani in Penukonda. According to the complaint, the mother-in-law threatened Deepa that since she has failed to convert to Christianity soon she would get divorce notice. She even threw the latter out of the home before leaving the premises locking it.

As it was raining since Thursday night in the town, the neighbours provided shelter to Deepa. The police after learning her plight reached the house and took her to the station. Sub-inspector Janardhan told the media that there were problems in the family during the last six months.

He said the couple was called to the police station and was given counselling. However, he admitted that they were not aware of conversion angle. According to the SI, the police had presumed that the couple was seeking to blame each other for minor issues. SI Janardhan said Deepa’s complaint would be looked into after going into details of the case.
