Kurnool: The state Chief Election Commission Officer, Bhanwar Lal directed the district officials to ensure deployment of police force at 225 polling stations during Nandyal by-elections.

He directed the officials to see that voting takes place in an amicable atmosphere at problematic and critical polling stations and to deploy additional Central forces if necessary. He reviewed a video conference from Hyderabad on Saturday with district collector, S Sathya Narayana, superintendent of police, Gopinath Jetti and returning officer, Prasanna Venkatesh.

Bhanwar Lal directed the officials to deploy adequate police force at Nandyal’s four lane highways and at check posts. He further said to ensure facilities like drinking water, continuous power, toilet facility and queue lines at polling centres. He directed the officials to handover the voter list of 225 polling stations to the contesting candidates.

He even advised to hold meetings with them for extending information about the norms to be followed while polling. The collector, Sathya Narayana was directed to ensure steps for distributing of voter slips to the voters.

The collector said all arrangements have been made at 225 polling stations and temporary rope way was also arranged at 25 polling stations. ‘We would start distributing the voter slips from 17th as the printing has been completed. Returning Officer, Prasanna Venkatesh from Nandyal said that we are taking steps for the distribution of voter slips along with the forms printed about EVMs and VVPATS also.

Bringing to the notice of election commission he said that we are strictly implementing the election code of conduct and so far we have seized around Rs.25 lakhs. Regarding paid news we have served seven notices to periodicals and five notices to cable channels, added the collector.

The district collector urged the election commission to sanction an amount of Rs.3.5 crore in addition to the amount sanctioned for conducting the election process. Responding to the request of the district collector, Bhanwar Lal advised him to send a proposal.

Joint Collector-2, Ramaswamy, Joint Collector, Prasanna Venkatesh, Superintendent of Police, Gopinath Jetti were represented at the video conference.
