The Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) is planning to enter into retail market to sell pepper and organic coffee under ‘Vanasiri’ brand name to provide best quality organic coffee and pepper to the consumers very soon. Guntur: The Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation (APFDC) is planning to enter into retail market to sell pepper and organic coffee under ‘Vanasiri’ brand name to provide best quality organic coffee and pepper to the consumers very soon. APFDC officials informed that the corporation will sell these products through its distributors.

The higher officials in the department have already started exercise to sell these products through the retail market. There is lot of demand for organic coffee and pepper in the market.

Generally farmers who raise coffee plantations will cultivate pepper as an inter crop in the gardens to get additional income. The AP Girijan Corporation is already selling Girijan honey, Shikai and tamarind through the Girijan Corporation. APFDC is raising coffee gardens, teak, eucalyptus and cashew apples in over 1.25 lakh hectares in the State.

In addition to this, the corporation has decided undertake tree plantation activity in the days to come. At present tree transplantation activity is in the private sector. In future, APFDC decided to undertake this activity to save the trees.
Due to widening of National Highways and State Highways, trees are being cut down and as a result forest coverage also is getting reduced.

Taking this into consideration, the APFDC has decided to undertake saplings plantation activity to protect the trees. They will be planted at the dividers on the national highways and other areas in the State. As a part of this programme, the department has sent its staff for training.

The corporation decided to sell 4 lakh tones of eucalyptus during this year. So far it has sold 1.3 lakh tones.
Speaking to The Hans India, Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation Managing Director P Mallikarjuna Rao said, “We will enter into retail market to sell organic coffee and pepper very soon.

There is demand for organic coffee and pepper in the market. The Girijan Corporation is already selling natural honey, taramind, Shikai and soap nuts through the Girijan Corporation. We will sell organic coffee, pepper through distributors soon. We will undertake tree transplantation activity very soon. We will set up seed bank soon.”
