In a major step, the government decided to introduce Student Health Cards (SHC)s to all the students studying in both government and private schools across the state. As a pilot project, the SHC will be introduced in the HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s constituency Bheemili.

Visakhapatnam: In a major step, the government decided to introduce Student Health Cards (SHC)s to all the students studying in both government and private schools across the state. As a pilot project, the SHC will be introduced in the HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s constituency Bheemili.

During at a review meeting with the higher officials, the HRD minister proposed the SHCs in order to review and monitor the health condition of the students. The education department, Rajiv Vidya Mission, medical and health departments will jointly take up the project.

The medical and health department will conduct all the diagnostic tests of the students and save the data. A SHC will be issued to the student and whenever the student fell in sick, the doctors and medical staff will have on hand information of the student with the help SHC. For the adolescent girl students, necessary gynaecology tests will also be conducted.

“Yes, the SHCs will be launched soon in the Bheemili constitution. A survey will be conducted in September. The minister directed the officials to submit a report about the availability of the staff and requirement of the diagnostic labs and technicians.

As a pilot project, the programme will be launched in the four mandals of the Bheemili constituency covering over 75,000 students in both private and government schools in over 100 schools. The SHC will be very useful to the students and easy access to monitor and review the health issues of the student,” District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) R Ramesh told Hans India.

After getting feedback, with necessary modifications, the SHC will be implemented across the state. “We are making an action plan to kick-start the programme in Bheemili constituency. The title to the SHCs and shape of the card will be decided by the Chief Minister’s Office,” a senior official of the education department said.
