Guntur: Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Siva Prasada Rao said that government was giving top priority for sports. He along with minister for sports Kollu Ravindra inaugurated Sports Academy at Narasaraopet on Thursday.

Speaking on this occasion, Kodela said that the government is setting up academies to develop players. “One hundred beds hostel building is coming up in the Kodela Siva Prasada Rao Stadium premises very soon,” he announced and added that synthetic court and a synthetic track would adorn the stadium soon.

Calling upon students to take part in sports and games and make best use of facilities, he sought minister for sports Kollu Ravindra’s cooperation in setting up Kabaddi and Volleyball academies, besides releasing pending bills related to Khel India event conducted last year.

Minister for sports, Kollu Ravindra said that government is planning to develop and unearth sportsperson from rural areas. “We will set up six sports academies and four water sports academies in the state. Kreeda Vikas Kendras will come up at every Assembly constituency at a cost of Rs 2 crore each,” he declared.

He reiterated that the government was giving 6 per cent reservation to sports persons and urged them to avail the opportunity. He urged the politicians to draw inspiration from Dr Kodela Siva Prasada Rao to construct toilets.
