Srikakulam: The state government is suppressing the rights of the evacuees of Vamsadhara project forcibly police force, alleged Human Rights Forum (HRF) vice-president KV Jagannadha Rao.

KV Jagannadha Rao, along with High Court advocate Vasudha Nagaraj, HRF members K Ramam, PV Suresh and B Dhilli Rao, planned to pay a a visit to Padali, Duggupuram, Garlapadu and Tulagam villages where police and revenue officials are destroying paddy crops, but police prevented them in Hiramandal by explaining not to violate Section 30 of Police Act.

Speaking on the occasion, KV Jagannadha Rao and advocate Vasudha Nagaraj said farmers, who sacrificed their lands and houses, are being suppressed. Farmers are cultivating paddy and it is expected to reach ripening stage in three months and two years are required for the completion of project, but officials are destroying the paddy in all the 19 project affected villages, they lamented.

Farmers are demanding compensation for their lands on par with other projects like Polavaram, Bhogapuram airport and Pattiseema as per new LA Act 2013, but officials denied it and tried to evacuate them forcibly, they alleged.
