Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked the officials and people’s representatives to imbibe the development plank as a passion and strive hard daily for the welfare of the poor.

While conducting a tele-conference on Neeru-Pragathi and agricultural operations in the State from his Undavalli residence on Monday, the Chief Minister said that due to unstable rainfall and no inflows in reservoirs the agricultural works in the State got hampered and the rainfall which occurred during the last one week has brought some solace to the farmers.

Expressing concern over not receiving inflows into Krishna river from upland States, he said the government completed Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme foreseeing the situation. “Still there is a 5.5 per cent rainfall deficit across the State and compared to last year this year the groundwater level increased by 1.38 metres.

There is a need for increase in groundwater levels in Rayalaseema region and to overcome this problem we have launched digging of farm ponds and constructing check dams in a big way. Water harvesting structures built on the streams can be used as reservoirs,” Naidu said.

Referring to the NREGA funds, he said that to create obstacles on releasing funds some people wrote letters to the Centre, but the efforts of the State government on utilising the funds has proved our efficiency, the Chief Minister said.

He called upon the elected representatives and officials to create awareness among the people on the NREGA. “Presently we are having Rs 460 crore funds of NREGA and another Rs 550 crore is being released today. We have to expedite the works in villages with these funds,” he said. Officials briefed him that construction of about 7.36 lakh individual toilets has been completed and 5.47 lakh farm ponds are under construction.

Reviewing on housing scheme, the Chief Minister asked the officials to construct 100 houses per month in each mandal. He asked them to complete the selection of 2 lakh beneficiaries for the year 2017-18, and 1.2 lakh beneficiaries for 2018-19 at the earliest. He directed them to encourage best practices in Swachh Andhra Pradesh programme and felicitate the swachh villages by giving awards on October 2.
