Vijayawada: Director General of Police (DGP) N Sambasiva Rao presented awards to police officials at a review meeting of higher officials at his camp office in Mangalagiri on Wednesday.

DSP P Mahesh and his team bagged first prize for second half of 2017 for solving kidnap mystery of a girl at Bhattiprolu in Guntur district. The minor girl’s father, Veera Swamy, complained against auto driver Srirama Nageswara Rao accusing him of kidnapping the girl on April 22.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu specially instructed the DGP to probe the case. Bapatla sub-division DSP P Mahesh, his team comprising two Circle Inspectors and three Sub-Inspectors camped in New Delhi for 46 days while probing the case. They arrested the auto driver Srirama Nageswara Rao in Samba sector in Jammu & Kashmir. The cops safely handed over the girl to her parents.

Parvada (Visakhapatnam) CI P Naidu, Sub-Inspectors Sk Sharif and P Ravi Kumar were given second prize for arresting a chain-snatcher Y Kishore. As many as 31 cases were pending against him in 16 police stations. The accused targets lonely women in Visakhapatnam and rural areas and snatch chains after introducing himself as an electricity line man. The police on April 3 went to the crime spot in Dibbalapalem arrested the culprit.The third prize was shared by Kasimkota police.
