Tirupati: On a tip-off, the Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) personnel swooped into Haritha Colony under the Karakambadi forest beat limits located on the outskirts of pilgrim city in the wee hours of Wednesday.

They found red sanders smugglers loading logs into the lorry. On the seeing the task force police, smugglers fled away into the forest. The task force team led by SI (Armed Reserve) BVS Prasad found 4 red sanders logs were already loaded into the lorry and six more were on the ground. The estimated value of 10 red sanders logs is Rs 5 lakh. The task force personnel detected that smugglers were using a lorry with fake number plate bearing number AP03 V 6261.

On removing the sticker, the police found that the lorry was registered in Tamil Nadu. According to police, it has become a regular practice for smugglers to use fake number plates for vehicles to smuggle red sanders logs so that they can shield the original vehicle owner from being caught.

Even, smugglers have pasted logo of Penna Cements on the lorry to divert attention of task force police. The smugglers are using logos like press, ambulance and also prominent company logos of Lucas Automobiles and Heritage Foods. The police said that stolen vehicles are being used for smuggling red sanders logs. RSASTF IG Dr Kantha Rao has instructed the task force personnel to comb the forest for tracking the smugglers.
