High Court to deliver verdict on super speciality admissions today
The division bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice T Rajani on Wednesday reserved for orders on the batch of writ petitions relating to the controversy over admissions into medical super speciality courses under NTR University of Health Sciences and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively.
Hyderabad: The division bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice T Rajani on Wednesday reserved for orders on the batch of writ petitions relating to the controversy over admissions into medical super speciality courses under NTR University of Health Sciences and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively.
The bench will deliver the judgment on Thursday. Arguments on both sides were completed in a marathon hearing on Wednesday. As is known, Dr Satish Kumar and 12 other medical graduates challenged the order issued by Union Health Ministry on May 4, stipulating that the seats under these two universities would also be filled in the counselling to be held at national level under NEET.
The petitioners contended that this is illegal as the two States are covered by Article 371-D of the Constitution that granted special provisions for local candidates in filling seats in education sector.
Some other petitions were also filed challenging the denial of seats in other States to students from Telugu States. All these petitions were clubbed and heard together by the bench on Wednesday.
Senior counsel S Satyam Reddy argued that there is Constitutional protection for the petitioners for 85 per cent of the seats while the remaining 15 per cent is open for all, including non-locals.
Appearing on behalf of petitioners who were denied seats in other states, senior counsels S Ramachandra Rao, C V Mohan Reddy, D V Seetharam Murthy and L Ravichander argued that in the remaining 15 per cent of seats in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State, candidates from other States are also eligible and it is wrong to bar the candidates from Telugu States from seats in other States of India.The bench reserved for orders and announced that it will pronounce the judgment on Thursday.
