Chittoor: An assured flight trip for 384 girls and 595 boys, who have won 10 GPS (Grade Points Assigned) in their Class X Public Examination in 2017 in Chittoor district has been cancelled.

It was proposed to facilitate the air trip for 900 beneficiaries of private schools, 51 from government and ZP schools, 19 from model schools and five from municipal schools with an aim to encourage the tenth class students.

Prathap Reddy, Regional Joint Director of Education, promised two months ago that all the 979 students, who secured 10 GPS in Chittoor district would be entertained with a flight picnic trip to Amaravati from Tirupati free of cost. Most of the students have already joined in higher classes awaiting a call from the District Education Officer for their flight trip. Sources reveal that the proposal for entertaining with a flight trip has been dropped.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday, District Education Officer K Samuel admitted that certain private English medium and recognised schools of Chittoor have come forward to sponsor the air trip to meritorious students to encourage them for pursuing higher secondary education.

“It was formally proposed to bring all the 979 students on flight from Tirupati to Amaravati. These students are expected to return in train alone from Vijayawada to Tirupati. All the expenditure for this jolly trip is to be borne by private schools only. There is no budget earmarked in the Education department. This is said to be an innovative measure for encouraging the students,” he added.

He said there was no role of Education department in this regard. Wide publicity has been given for the air trip to the meritorious students.

As there was no proper understanding between the District Education Department and the managements of certain private schools in organising the air trip, sources reveal that the proposed trip is likely to be cancelled, disappointing number of meritorious students, it may be stated.
