Highlights:

  • N Raghuveera Reddy blames the BJP-led NDA govt for its failure to implement AP Reorganisation Act and accord special category status to the State
  • Says the bifurcation helped in Polavaram Project getting the national status
  • Flays NDA govt for not taking steps to set up Dugarajapatnam Port in Nellore dist and steel plant in Kadapa

Addressing media persons at Vempalle in Kadapa district on Monday, he said that the Congress party had taken the right decision over the issue, but the BJP-led NDA government failed to implement the AP State Reorganistion Act in proper manner.

He recalled that 11 States in the country, including Uttarakhand in 2002 during the regime of Atal Bihari Vajpayee secured Special Status though it was not mentioned in the Act. But the status was accorded to the State following the nod of the Union Cabinet.

He said that BJP and TDP were trying to divert the attention of the people by wrongly stating that the special status issue was not included in the State Reorganisation Act. He questioned why the BJP-led NDA government was not initiating steps for establishing Dugarajapatnam Port in Nellore district, and steel plant in Kadapa district though they were included in the Act.

He pointed out that the Central government is not implementing special package Rs 24, 350 crores for the development of back ward areas like Rayalaseema and Uttarandra regions which are also included in the bifurcation act. Questioning the credibility of YSR Congress President YS Jaganmohan Reddy for adopting double standards over maintaining ‘indirect links’ with BJP.

He recalled that in the earlier Jagan Mohan Reddy openly stated that he never maintained links with BJP, but now why he is travelling along with that party. Congress enior leader Tulasi Reddy and others were present.
