BRAU gearing up for its first convocation on Sept 23

Srikakulam: Preparations are underway for holding the first convocationof Dr BR Ambedkar University (BRAU) here on September23,  said Vice-Chancellor Prof Gollapalli Nageswara Rao. 

 Addressing the media on Wednesday at the BRAU campus, the Vice-Chancellor said that post-graduate centre was established here in 1978 and it was upgraded to the level of a university in 2008. After 10 years, they were going to conduct first convocation of the BRAU, he added. He said that the state government sanctioned an engineering college at BRAU and would  make arrangements for accommodation. 

The Vice-Chancellor said that BRAU would be made into an integrated university soon and expressed the hope that it would find a place among the first 100 universities across the nation out of the total 1,300 universities. 

He said that the basic facilities were being improved in a phased manner at BRAU campus. On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor released a short film on BRAU.  He said that Governor ESL Narasimhan will participate in the  convocation programme in his capacity as Chancellor and eminent economist, Prof Rokkam Radhakrishna will be the chief guest and both will be honoured with doctorates on the occasion.

BRAU Registrar  Prof Gunta Thulasi Rao lauded the efforts of the media in the upgradation of BRAU from the level of a PG Centre to that of a university. Candidates, who completed their post-graduation, M Phil and PhD courses, could apply for original degrees which would be present to them during the convocation and last date was extended for it up to September 16,  he informed.

University College principal P Chiranjeevi, dean (examinations) T Kamaraju, chief warden, B Adaiah and executive council members of the university were present on the occasion.
