Visakhapatnam: Good news to the coffee lovers. Araku brand instant coffee will hit the market by the end of December. Araku Coffee, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as brand ambassador, has already drawn a huge response from coffee lovers across the world. The Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) has been conducting trials to manufacture instant coffee from Araku Coffee for some time and the trial has been completed.

Minister for Tribal Welfare N Ananda Babu, while participating in the GCC-60 years’ celebrations held here on Monday, said the instant coffee would be released for commercial sales by the end of December.

While talking about the progress of the GCC in the past six decades and future development plans, the minister said the corporation had achieved Rs 317 crore turnover during 2016-17 and targeting to cross Rs 400 crore in the present fiscal.
“The corporation has been registering excellent performance in terms of turnover. During 2014-15, the GCC turnover was just Rs 148 crore only. However, with implementation of various activities competing in the open market, the corporation has now aimed to chase the Rs 400-crore mark in the present fiscal,’’ Ananda Babu said.

While talking about the employees’ welfare activities, the minister announced that the retirement age of the employees in the corporation would be raised from 58 to 60 years and orders would be released soon. The wages of the contract labour would be increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 per month, the minister assured.

While reviewing the corporation activities at a meeting, the minister said that during in the past two years coffee farmers were paid the remuneration on the lines of international prices. The minister directed the officials to make all the efforts to collect 1,500 metric tons of raw coffee from the farmers in the forthcoming season. He also directed the officials to ensure agriculture loans to all the tribal farmers at six percent rate of interest.

While reviewing the retail sales progress the minister said that in present fiscal the target was Rs 37 crore but the corporation had achieved Rs 6.88 crore and directed the officials to put efforts to cross the target of retail sales.
