Hindupur: Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi declared an all-out war on child sex abuse through his 'Bharath Yatra' which on its eighth day entered Andhra Pradesh from Bengaluru on at Kodikonda village in Chilamathur mandal in the district on Monday.

Over 10,000 youth, students and working professionals welcomed Satyarthi and pledged to stand by him in his relentless fight for the child rights. The march was given a rousing reception by Minister for Women & Child Welfare Paritala Sunitha, Minister for Housing and I&PR Kalava Srinivasulu and Irrigation Minister and District in-charge minister Devineni Umamaheshwar Rao.
Accepting with humility the touching reception he received at Kodikonda village, Satyarthi said, “Andhra Pradesh is the Sunrise State.

I want the Sun to dispel the darkness of fear, perversion, vulgarity, which have become not only a heinous crime but a moral epidemic in the form of child sexual abuse in India and in Andhra Pradesh. I urge all ministers, MPs, MLAs, District Collectors, SPs and other elected politicians and bureaucrats not just in Andhra Pradesh but across India to go back to your schools at least once as a father, brother, mother and sister.

It will help restore confidence among parents in ensuring safety of children.”“Child rape has become a moral epidemic that haunts our nation. We can no longer remain silent spectators. Our silence is breeding more violence. That's why 'Bharath Yatra' has declared an all-out war on rape and sexual crime on children. We refuse to let the victims and their families live in fear while the rapists roam fearlessly in the streets.

I refuse to accept that children go missing and two children are raped every hour. If a single child is in danger, India is in danger,” Satyarthi said. After cultural programmes and traditional dances on the issues of child sexual abuse and trafficking, he invited all for the pledge.

“Today, we see that from politicians to children, bureaucrats to youth, villagers and employees, all are coming together to say it loudly that children’s safety is the most burning issue and needs to be addressed at all levels,” he said. “Bharat Yatra flagged off from Kanyakumari on September 11 will culminate in New Delhi on October 16 covering 11,000 km across 22 states. In Andhra Pradesh, it will pass through Anantapur and Kurnool before entering Telangana.
