Rupees 1.2 cr worth red sanders logs seized; 8 arrested
The Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) team and local police arrested 8 red sanders smugglers and seized Rs 1.2 crore worth 99 red sanders logs, two vehicles, one bike, 7 mobile phones and Rs 4,140 cash from them in a combing operation held in Seetharampuram, Duttalur, and Udayagiri mandals.
Nellore: The Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) team and local police arrested 8 red sanders smugglers and seized Rs 1.2 crore worth 99 red sanders logs, two vehicles, one bike, 7 mobile phones and Rs 4,140 cash from them in a combing operation held in Seetharampuram, Duttalur, and Udayagiri mandals.
The accused were identified as Kamaluddin Sajahan (38); V Eswaraiah (45); B Obul Reddy (46); R Prakash Prabhakaran (28); Mohammad Haneef Shamshuddin (36); K Suresh, R Venkateswarlu (33) and P Chinna (37). Speaking to the media at Kavali on Wednesday, OSD (Crimes) T P Vithaleswar along with Kavali DSP Raghunandan said that task force and local police teams conducted combing operations in forest area falling under Duttalur,
Seetharamapuram and Udayagiri mandals. Task force team and police apprehended 8 red sanders smugglers including Tamil Nadu smugglers during raids, he added. OSD said that these smugglers normally transport red sanders logs to Chennai and in turn export them to the buyers in other countries.
“Three teams have been formed to nab the smugglers who involved in the smuggling activity. Majority of them were from Red Hills area in Chennai city. It seems Red Hills is the den for red sanders smuggling,” said Vithaleswar. He also warned that stern action would be taken against the smugglers who transport logs from the forest area. Udayagiri, Duttalur and Seetharamapuram Sub-Inspectors were also present.
