“The media is creating sensation on every issue, the latest being the nine deaths. Relatives of the patients had shifted them to Anantapur Government hospital after the private hospitals told them the cases were hopeless. The patients have been admitted to the hospital in the last stage but the media has portrayed the deaths as a case of negligence on the part of the doctors,” he said.
The minister, who was here to participate in Swachh Bharat programme on Thursday, addressed media in the government hospital. He said that after verification, it was revealed that out of the nine patients who died in the Government Hospital at Anantapur, four were admitted in the last stage after advised by private hospitals. Another three patients were also admitted in the last stages, he added.
“Of the nine, seven are above 50 years of age and one is of 90 years while one was 80-years-old. According to the preliminary report, there was no negligence on the part of the doctors. In spite of it, I will visit the Anantapur Government Hospital on September 30 to assess the actual situation. If anyone is found guilty the government will initiate action against them without any hesitation,” Srinivas said while urging the media not to create panic among public over the government hospitals and try to create distrust on the government medical services.
Stating that the government was ready to sanction medical college to Eluru Government headquarters hospital, the minister however, said as there was paucity of funds, the government would give priority to private parties. He said if any private party comes forward, he would talk to the Chief Minister to sanction the medical college.
ELuru MP Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu), Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao (Bujji) Hospital Development Committee chairman and MLC Ramu Surya Rao and others participated. Earlier, the minister along with the other dignitaries took part in the cleaning of the hospital premises as part of Swachata hi Seva under Swachh Bharat programme of the Centre.
